Ranking all 8 UFL uniforms for 2024: JakeH28’s Uniform Hour

Which UFL team will look the best on the field in 2024?

UFL

It’s almost time for the next big thing in spring football to happen, the UFL is kicking off March 30th. But while players are battling for a chance to move up in the football ranks, which team will look the best? With this article from ESPN detailing the uniforms and the few changes for each team, I was able to rank them from worst to first. Do note this is a completely subjective ranking, so if you agree or disagree, feel free to let me know in the comments below.

8: Houston Roughnecks

Houston has some of the most divisive uniforms in the UFL, where some love them and some hate them. As you can see by their low placement in the ranking, I fall into the “hate them” camp. Really, this busy mess of a uniform just isn’t good. Shoulder yolks with multiple patches and even a wordmark make the jersey an eyeful, and a oil pattern makes the numbers and pants stripe messy. But put all of this aside, and you are still met with the Roughnecks abomination of a helmet, which just goes to show how bad a multicolored helmet can be. ESPN calls it “sleek,” and it has its fans, but I’m not one of them.

7: Arlington Renegades

The Renegades certainly have some bright uniforms, with their baby blue color stealing the show. Ultimately, I don’t really like the lack of contrasting colors, especially on the white away look. The home threads are fine, without any major gripes. Although, why use red in the numbers if you won’t use it anywhere else? The helmet has a very thick stripe that is off-putting and a logo that would be much better with a black outline. The away set refuses to use a contrasting color to the white, and ultimately falls flat compared to most of the UFL.

6: San Antonio Brahmas

San Antonio has some uniforms that aren’t horrible, but they aren’t too eye-popping either. There is a very generic feel to them, with very few unique touches. The collar treatment is one of the few things the Brahmas can claim as their own. That, and the fact they wear yellow as their primary away color. The bright yellow made for some wild uniform match-ups in the XFL, and now they’ll be doing that in the UFL. The helmet would still be improved if the horns went the other direction and started from the front of the helmet. The Brahmas are far from the best, but they sure are far from the worst.

5: Memphis Showboats

The Memphis Showboats may not have overhauled their design, but they made a few changes that’ll make the Boats a much better looking team on the field. Most notably, navy pants were added to the rotation, which I appreciate. The pant stripes have been transformed into a smaller design that tapers off. I haven’t figured out if this was a positive change, but one change I love is the shoulder yolk being re-positioned so the names can be read more easily. Overall, it’s not a classic design, but it’s a solid look for Memphis in the UFL.

4: St. Louis Battlehawks

St. Louis might have the best fan-base in all of spring football, but some of the most average uniforms. As a Detroit Lions fan, the color scheme on display is awesome, but everything else just feels like it was made from a cookie-cutter template. It works, but they really should lean into mixing up the combinations. Why can’t we have a blue-on-gray set? Also, their blue helmet from 2020 was far better than the current silver lid.

3: DC Defenders

If there’s one team that I’ve completely changed my opinion on since last season, it’s the DC Defenders. Their simple, and quite frankly boring set looks stunning on the field, and the camo details look really cool up close. DC has the striping and the details to make it a great look, but they are some bland uniforms I can’t bring myself to truly love. Give the team some white pants to wear occasionally, and maybe I’ll love them more.

2: Michigan Panthers

Last year, the Panthers had the best uniforms in the USFL. Everything from their colors to the striping worked wonders, and they still do, which is why they are second in the uniform ranking. The Panthers also have the best helmets in the entire league, and it’s debatable that they are the best in the entirety of alternative football, and quite possibly in all of football. However, the pants have been completely butchered. The striping now is split up and looks horrendous. what was wrong with traditional striping? Adding plum pants will be nice, but I can’t get past those pants.

1: Birmingham Stallions

The Stallions have some all-time great uniforms. Everything works. The colors, the striping, the combinations, everything is great. Birmingham doesn’t need to try and be loud with a modern gimmick to make their uniforms awesome. They didn’t need to make any changes, and now they’re all the better for it. With nothing to complain about, Birmingham easily takes the top spot in the Rankings.
