UFL Showcase Player Highlight: Tyler Cargill, WR 6’3 200 lbs

Tyler Cargill has just completed his second season of professional indoor football. Hailing from Slippery Rock University it took a hard road to get Cargill where he is today…accepted to a UFL Showcase. Originally beginning his career at the semi-pro ranks before climbing his way into the pro arena football realm.

School of Hard Knocks

Some players have an insatiable love for football that will carry them through their collegiate career, and into the professional ranks no matter the setbacks that may come. Tyler Cargill is one of those players. Attending Thiel College, and later Slippery Rock University Cargill simply wasn’t going to receive the NFL hype some graduates receive fresh out of D1 schools.

For two years Cargill waited his turn at Thiel but never got the opportunity he needed to shine. Upon transferring to Slippery Rock, things changed slightly. He was on a roster that featured future USFL/XFL players like Roland Rivers, and Cinque Sweeting which made it difficult to come in and immediately find playing time. When covid hit in 2020 he opted to leave the football team and pursue other avenues to play. He did however continue his education and still graduated. He just made the rare choice to begin playing developmental arena football before he graduated.

Red-zone Receiving Threat

After splitting time with the Las Vegas Kings, Dallas Falcons, and Oklahoma Flying Aces he has collected 33 receptions for 425 yards and 20 touchdowns.

As evidenced by his numbers, Cargill has scored on 60.6% of his receptions along the way in the pros. This isn’t by accident as his 6’3 frame, and strength (13 reps of 225 pounds) play into being a jump ball threat, and a physical presence that can come down with 50/50 balls.

His personal best in the three-cone drill is a 6.8 unofficially and officially a 7.0. He talks about how he is working to be quicker in and out of his breaks and is always his own harshest critic as he strives to be the best receiver he can be.

Before joining the Oklahoma Flying Aces in 2024, he ran a 4.52 40-yard dash at a tryout for the Frisco Fighters of the Indoor Football League. Although his performance at that try-out didn’t end in a contract offer then, he’s hoping his showcase performance ends in his name being called on UFL Draft Day.
