Justin Arth is the type of quarterback who should beckon memories of watching Drew Brees dissect defenses with the Saints. Both players stand right around 6’1 and 210— pounds, and both are known for their football IQ, accuracy, and pocket presence, they also shared a quarterback coach in Tom House. They even have a somewhat similar throwing motion.

Justin Arth, Tested at Texas Wesleyan
In college Arth was bounced back and forth from scout team to starter, to holding a clipboard and everything in between. He was one of many students woo’ed by the prospect of helping build a football program from scratch. Several players signed up for the program and red-shirt in 2016 to preserve eligibility for the schools inaugural season in 2017. Justin was one of those players.
He stuck at Texas Wesleyan despite all of the movement on the depth chart showing resilience and dedication to a team. He started 15 games producing 2869 passing yards, 26 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and 484 rushing yards and six touchdowns in 21 games. Justin may not be known for his mobility but with a personal best of a 4.68 in the 40-yard dash he can certainly take off if needed to.
Justin Arth Plays for Hometown Peach State Cats
Arth is a player that simply hasn’t been given a fair shot to win a job with any team since his days with the Peach State Cats where he put up Drew Brees-like numbers; completing over 70% of his passes indoors on a condensed field. He spent time with the Tucson Sugar Skulls, but faced with interest from multiple CFL teams, and at least one NFL team in succession he and the team decided it was best if they let him pursue these opportunities.
In 2023 he was with the Gillette Mustangs for camp, garnering interest from the USFL he worked out with the Houston Gamblers at the time who had absorbed a former Texas Wesleyan coach or two. This opportunity may have come with a cost unfortunately as he missed a day of practice and the team chose to start Mike Pina Jr., keeping Josh Hollins as the QB2 because he could double as a wide receiver. It was clear the deciding factor here was athleticism, both Pina Jr. and Hollins are known for their running ability.
Outdoor Interest for Justin Arth
Justin also attended the 2023 XFL Showcases catching the eye of at least one team although they had arguably one of the deepest quarterback rooms in the league at that time.
He was in camp with the Carolina Cobras early in 2024 but ultimately faced an uphill battle. Carolina had Guy Myers returning from the UFL, it would be tough to supplant him. Guy had spent the previous season as the backup to Malik Henry before both got calls outdoors. Henry signed with Edmonton in the CFL and Myers with Memphis in the UFL. Both were later released and returned to their previous teams. An unfortunate break for Myers, but even more unfortunate for Arth as the Cobras opted to keep a local player as the primary backup behind Myers.
This year Arth also would play for Team USA again displaying accuracy, poise in the pocket, and great decision making on his way to 11 of 16 for 156 yards and 1 touchdown. Much in the way a Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, or Tom Brady operated, Justin’s value comes from his ability to be the ultimate point guard divvying the ball up to his playmakers and keeping his offense ahead of the chains by avoiding mistakes and maximizing yards after the catch. Timing, ball placement, and communication with his receivers are three of Justin’s strong suits.
Around the time he played for Team USA he also worked out with the Los Angeles Chargers along with WR/TE/FB Ari Werts. Although neither was ultimately signed.
Following his release from Carolina he would end up signing with his local AFL team the Georgia Force. Georgia was one of the few AFL teams that carried three QBs and they initially kept Arth inactive before activating him for…special teams? That’s right. The quarterback best known for his accuracy and not his mobility was asked to return kicks, play defensive back and handle kickoffs. This should be an indication of how underrated Arth is as an athlete.
