NFL quarterbacks under the most pressure to win in 2024

NFL

Which quarterbacks have to succeed this NFL season?

In the NFL, the quarterback is meant to be the leader, so naturally, almost all the pressure of the team can be placed on the signal caller. When a QB isn’t winning, the NFL throws even more pressure at them to win, or else they’ll face the harsh criticism, lack of big money contracts and legacies as losers. Which quarterbacks are under the most pressure in 2024?

Dak Prescott- Dallas Cowboys

Very few quarterbacks face as much pressure from the media as the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys, and that pressure is even worse when you’re not under a long term deal. Prescott and the Cowboys melted down in the playoffs last year, and there is a sense of urgency in Dallas that could see Prescott leave the Cowboys if they don’t meet their expectations.

Tua Tagovailoa- Miami Dolphins

Tua Tagovailoa was drafted by the Dolphins to become the new-age Dan Marino, and while Tua has the crazy numbers, he hasn’t quite gotten many accolades, and he also hasn’t proven he can be a winner. Now Tua faces contract problems and a lack of playoff success. Will he avoid the bust label and win a playoff game this year?

DeShaun Watson- Cleveland Browns

DeShaun Watson used to be among the biggest stars in the NFL, but these days he looks like one of the worst signal callers in the league. However, the Cleveland Browns are still paying him a king’s ransom. Watson now sits in legitimate danger of losing the starting job to Jameis Winston, so he’d better play up to his gargantuan contract if he wants to keep the job and regain his reputation as a good quarterback.

Trevor Lawrence- Jacksonville Jaguars

Trevor Lawrence signed one of the most lucrative deals in the NFL this offseason, but thus far in his career, we haven’t seen much winning. Now, all the pieces are in place for Lawrence to succeed, but if he doesn’t, will we be talking about Lawrence being a bust?

Daniel Jones- New York Giants

Daniel Jones has not been a great quarterback during his time in the NFL, but he’s still being paid on a large contract. Now, it’s boom or bust time for the heir to Eli Manning. Jones must prove his worth and bring a middling Giants squad further than mediocrity if he wants to be seen as an elite QB.

Kirk Cousins- Atlanta Falcons

Kirk Cousins has usually been the face of mediocre squads never looking to seriously contend in the NFL, but now in Atlanta on another big contract, Cousins gets to be a part of an offense featuring Drake London, Kyle Pitts and Bijan Robinson. With an offense full of talent in a weak division, Cousins is in a must-win situation if he wants to be viewed as a winner.

Derek Carr- New Orleans Saints

Derek Carr has been a tease for much of his career, and now with the Saints he is in a rough situation to change that narrative. If he can elevate his team to the playoff level, then maybe Carr can be considered a top NFL signal caller. As it stands, Carr is a frustrating and dismal looking QB on the field. Another bad year, and his career and legacy could be completely down the drain.

Brock Purdy- San Francisco 49ers

Brock Purdy came out of nowhere in 2022-2023, becoming an instant star when he exploded onto the scene as the leader of the stacked 49ers. Now, he’s started in a Super Bowl, and played incredibly well during a full season as starter. But what if he regresses or doesn’t get the Niners far in the playoffs? Will he be a valuable piece? Or will he fall to backup/journeyman status as many late round picks do? The pressure is on Purdy to prove he’s a long term option in the league and not just a flash in the pan.
