CFL Week 9 Power Rankings

Welcome back CFL Fans, week 8 is wrapped up and @TheBrysh has calculated the Power Rankings going into week 9. It should be no surprise that the Calgary Stampeders and Winnipeg Blue Bombers remain in the 1st and 2nd position. After the back and forth spectacle that they put on this weekend, I don’t think their positions can be questioned. Calgary proved that they are among the best in the CFL, but QB Bo Levi Mitchell said it best, “If you lose to a team two times in a row, they’re better than you. That’s just the facts.”

Toronto and Ottawa

The Toronto Argonauts drop to 5th after they took a surprise beating from Ottawa, which lifts the Redblacks to 4th. The Argos appeared to have this game under control, but 17 un-answered points from the Redblacks sealed the deal. This was a much needed win for a desperate Ottawa team in a divisional match-up.

BC and Saskatchewan

The BC Lions easy victory over the bruised and battered Saskatchewan Roughriders lifts them to the number 3 spot, the ‘Riders drop to 8th in the league. The ‘Riders had a 17-4 lead halfway into the 2nd quarter, then threw the transmission into neutral and watched the Lions run away with an easy 32-17 victory.

Montreal and Hamilton

Montreal and Hamilton put on a lackluster performance this weekend; this game was a struggle for both teams to mount any offense in the first half. Both teams had opportunities, but failed to capitalize. The only thing impressive about this game was that the Tiger-Cats defense held the Alouettes to field goals. The Tiger-Cats and Alouettes are now tied for 7th position.

Edmonton

In an unsurprising announcement, the Edmonton Elks remain firmly in the CFL cellar with the 9th and final spot.  The Elks had the week off and return for week 9 in BC to take on the Lions, look for them to hold onto the 9th position until the end of the season! The Saskatchewan Roughriders have a bye in week 9; hopefully they overcome their injury woes and return in top form. This team has the potential to become serious contenders, but have been hampered by illness, suspensions and a growing Injured Reserve.

The Blue Bombers, Stampeders, and Lions look to have easy matches in week 9 against the Als, Redblacks and Elks.  The positions of these 6 teams probably won’t change much. Hamilton and Toronto should be an interesting game; both teams are in the running for top spot in their Division. The outcome of this game will surely cause ranking changes in the East.
