CFL WEEK 19: PREDICTIONS

Welcome back CFL Fans! Week 18 of the 2022 season is behind us, and it’s time to calculate the CFL Predictions for Week 19. @TheBrysh Power Rankings (PR’s) are calculated using a proprietary algorithm, @TheBrysh Power Rankings are also used to calculate weekly predictions, Week 18 predictions for @TheBrysh were 3/4, for a season tally of 47/69 or 68% on straight up wins. Point spreads are courtesy of draftkings.com and are accurate at time of writing.

CFL Week 19

This is the point in the season where things get dicey when it comes to predicting scores and straight up winners. Teams may be eliminated from playoff contention and have nothing to gain from another checkmark in the “W” column. Teams may have playoff contention clinched, therefore allowing them to reserve their 1st string for the post-season. Still other teams may have “nothing to lose” as they have home field advantage guaranteed. Let’s roll the proverbial dice and see what happens in Week 19.

MONTREAL ALOUETTES(-3.5) @ OTTAWA REDBLACKS

The repeat of Ottawa vs. Montreal will be played this week, this time at TD Place, the home of the Redblacks. Ottawa got the better of Montreal last week with a surprising 24-18 win. The Alouettes still have a window of opportunity to snatch 1st place in the East Division from the Toronto Argonauts. @TheBrysh calculations show a negligible home field advantage for the Redblacks. Look for the Alouettes to control the time of possession with a potent ground game, Montreal wins 30-23.

HAMILTON TIGER-CATS @ CALGARY STAMPEDERS(-7.5)

With only 3 games left in the season, the Stampeders are hungry for wins to steal the 2nd place spot from the BC Lions. Hamilton is still very much alive for the playoffs, but desperately need a win this week. Looking at the average Points For and Points Against of these teams spells out the inevitable outcome. The Stamp’s average 31 PF with 22 PA, and the Tiger-Cats 22 PF with 27 PA. Both teams have a lot to gain from a wind in Week 19, but I would bet on a Calgary win 33-17.

TORONTO ARGONAUTS(-4.5) @ EDMONTON ELKS

Elimination from the post season creates a “no pressure” atmosphere for a team that has nothing gain or lose. The Edmonton Elks are in such a predicament, and I believe they will leave everything they have on the field this week. The Argonauts can clinch the East Division with a win, depending on the outcome of the Ottawa/Montreal game. The Argo’s have not won at Commonwealth since 2013, but @TheBrysh predicts that the streak ends this week with Toronto winning 38-21.

WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS(-1.5) @ BC LIONS

Winnipeg has 1st place clinched in the West, and will sit QB Zach Collaros to start QB Dru Brown instead. Brown has only thrown 7 passes in a CFL game this season, but did complete 5 passes for 127 yards and 2 TD’s. The Lions will not be holding back one iota, as they are in a “neck and neck” race with Calgary for 2nd in the division. The point spread is obviously a response to the Bombers clinch, and the replacement of the starting QB. Winnipeg still has the deeper roster and @TheBrysh predicts them to take the victory 29-23.
