WEEK 2: RECAP

Expert Predictions on all 4 XFL games this week as well as a recap of last week's action. Includes written summaries, Power Rankings and graphics.

SATURDAY GAME

Seattle Sea Dragons(-2.5) @ Vegas Vipers Both of these teams are going into this one with a 0-2 record, with the oddsmakers giving the edge to the Sea Dragons, probably because they have kept their losses close in their first 2 games. Even with the “ugliest” stadium in the XFL, and a terrible showing in Week 2, the Vegas Vipers do show potential, like when they strip-sacked QB Jordan Ta’amu helping them to an early lead. I’m certain that Vipers head coach Rod Woodson will instill some intensity and desire into his team, leading them to a 24-20 UPSET win.

SUNDAY GAMES

St. Louis Battlehawks @ D.C Defenders(-2) The DC Defenders have shown that they can move the ball on the ground, as they picked up 229 yards, 2 TDs and averaged 5.5 yards per carry against the Vipers last week. Some critics have pointed out that the Battlehawks have only averaged 19 points per game, but they have also held their opponents to 16.5 points in the first 2 weeks, meaning they do enough to win. The Battlehawks will probably “stack up” the D-Line against the run and force the Defenders to pass, which is not DC’s strong suit, leading to an UPSET win for the ‘Hawks 26-22.

Orlando Guardians @ Arlington Renegades(-8.5) In the pre-season, @TheBrysh had identified the Orlando Guardians as the “cellar dweller” of the XFL, and the Guardians have not disappointed as they have lost their first 2 games by a total of 39 points. The Renegades have not looked spectacular overall, indicated by a 1-1 start, but they also don’t have any glaring flaws. If the Guardians don’t pick up their game in week 3 the Renegades should have no problem dispatching them in a big 28-10 Renegades victory.

San Antonio Brahmas @ Houston Roughnecks(-4) The Roughnecks have been the surprise of the 2023 season as they have won their first 2 games by an average of 15 points, and appear to be the most effective passing team in the XFL. Hines Ward’s Brahmas started the season with a tough loss in Week 1, but came back to dominate the Guardians in Week 2. San Antonio QB Jack Coan looks like the real deal and is considered by some to be NFL calibre, but I can’t see the Brahmas beating Houston, so I’ll take the Roughnecks to win 27-23.
