XFL DIVISIONAL GAMES: RECAP

NORTH DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

Seattle Sea Dragons @ DC Defenders(-3) This matchup had the makings of a nail biter with the 9-1 Defenders hosting the 7-3 Sea Dragons, and up until the mid-point of the game the score was dead-locked at 9-9. The second half of the game was where the ‘Dragons shot themselves in the foot, with a plethora of unnecessary defensive penalties, allowing the Defenders to march the ball upfield at will. Seattle’s offence didn’t help either, where their running game generated -3 yards on 2 plays TOTAL, and their receiver’s couldn’t have caught a beach ball to save their lives. Defenders walk out with a gift victory 37-21, and a trip to the XFL Championship Game!

SOUTH DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

Arlington Renegades @ Houston Roughnecks(-6) The 7-3 Roughnecks were slated for a “walk in the park” against the 4-6 Renegades, where the experts had given a 6 point spread and @TheBrysh expected an even greater differential. Arlington QB Luis Perez obviously had other plans as he shocked the Roughnecks with 3 passing touchdowns in the first half, targeting WR JaVonta Payton for 2 of the scores. The Renegades’ offence “simmered” in the second half, but Houston could only manage a single touchdown, giving the 26-11 win to Arlington, and a spot in the XFL Championship Game!

XFL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

Arlington Renegades vs DC Defenders(-6) The DC Defenders played a masterful 2023 season, and looked to possibly go undefeated, aside from the embarrassment of a loss to the hapless Orlando Guardians in Week 7. The 4-6 Arlington Renegades were delegated to a playoff position due to a lack of competition in the South Division. That aside, Arlington proved their potential when they dismantled Houston, and should make for a competitive Championship Game against the Defenders.

The Championship Game will take place at the AlamoDome, in San Antonio, Texas, which may work as a “home field” advantage to the Renegades who hail from the “Lone Star State”. The Renegades will be looking for a repeat performance from QB Luis Perez, who put up 3 touchdown passes in the first half in the South Division Championship Game. The Defenders have a “double edged sword” in QB Jordan Ta’amu with a 14:3 TD to INT ratio, and RB Abram Smith and his team leading 788 yards rushing.

These teams met up in Week 9, with DC appearing to have the game well in hand, but the Renegades refused to back down and took it to OT, where the Defenders took the win 28-26. @TheBrysh is looking for Arlington’s QB Perez to enter the game with a renewed confidence and air the ball out early and often. Unfortunately for the Renegades, the Defenders will put up a strong defence and establish possession and ball control with a grinding run game, ending in a 28-26 win for the XFL Champion DC Defenders!
