Welcome back USFL Fans! Week 5 of the 2023 season is behind us, and it’s time to calculate the USFL Predictions for Week 6. @TheBrysh Power Rankings (PR’s) are calculated using a proprietary algorithm, @TheBrysh Power Rankings are also used to calculate weekly predictions. Week 5 predictions for @TheBrysh were a disappointing 1/4, for a season total of 10/20 or 50% on straight up wins. As the weeks progress, the numbers get dialled in and the predictions become even more accurate. Point spreads are courtesy of Bookmaker.eu and are accurate at the time of writing.
WEEK 5: RECAP
Week 5 was filled with unexpected upsets and questionable performances, the only straight up pick that @TheBrysh could muster was the Maulers upset over the Panthers. New Orleans saw the first underperformance of QB McLeod Bethel-Thompson with 3 turnovers in the first half. Houston pulled out a horseshoe to beat the Stallions, but Birmingham is still the top team. Philadelphia has yet to put in an impressive game, aside form K Luis Aguilar kicking for the Stars total 24 points in Week 5.
Pittsburgh Maulers(-2.5) @ Memphis Showboats The Pittsburgh Maulers have already exceeded expectations in 2023 by winning more games (2) than they had for the entire 2022 season. The Showboats started 2023 with 3 straight losses, and they appeared destined to occupy the USFL basement with the Maulers. Both teams have turned their performance around somewhat, but both continue to struggle on offence, @TheBrysh is looking for an UPSET, Showboats 25-20.
Birmingham Stallions(-5) @ Michigan Panthers Michigan has slid to the bottom of the USFL Power Rankings, and now host the defending Champion Stallions and QB Alex McGough. Birmingham has struggled offensively as of late, averaging only 14 points per game, but should be able to turn that around against the Panthers. Five weeks into the 2023 season and Michigan continues to flip-flop on a lead quarterback, this indecision will lead to an easy victory for the Stallions 26-12.
New Orleans Breakers(-6) @ Philadelphia Stars The Philadelphia Stars managed to pull out a win, solely based on the performance of Kicker Luis Aguilar who scored every single point for his team. Without any evidence of an ability to score touchdowns, I doubt that the Stars have a chance against the high-scoring Breakers. New Orleans QB McLeod Bethel-Thompson had an off game last week, but is sure to bounce back to his league leading standards, @TheBrysh calls an easy victory for the Breakers 23-18.
New Jersey Generals(-2) @ Houston Gamblers This matchup is going down in the books as the @TheBrysh pick for “Game of the Week”, look for a nail-biter. Houston is counting on the return of QB Kenji Bahar from an ankle injury this week, which could bolster the performance of RB Mark Thompson. The Gamblers defence will hold the duo of Bahar and Thompson to less than 200 yards, and slow the game pace with a grinding offence for a 22-21 victory.
