Welcome back USFL Fans! Week 7 of the 2023 season is behind us, and it’s time to calculate the USFL Predictions for Week 8. @TheBrysh Power Rankings (PR’s) are calculated using a proprietary algorithm, @TheBrysh Power Rankings are also used to calculate weekly predictions. Week 7 predictions for @TheBrysh were another disappointing 1/4, for a season total of 13/28 or 46% on straight up wins. As the weeks progress, the numbers get dialed in and the predictions become even more accurate. Point spreads are courtesy of Bookmaker.eu and are accurate at the time of writing.

WEEK 7: RECAP

Week 7 was highlighted by the showdown between the Birmingham Stallions and the New Orleans Breakers, Birmingham has been at the top of the Power Rankings (PR’s) all season and the Breakers are exciting to watch. The difference in this game was the QB performances of New Orleans’ McLeod Bethel-Thompson, and Stallions’ Alex McGough, where the latter stole the show.

The USFL has demonstrated through the first 7 weeks of the season that it can more than compete with the XFL, averaging well over 1 Million viewers on it’s shakiest week. In week 7, all of the games were decided within 6 points and the playoff picture is wide open to the imagination of the fans. The PR’s are constantly shifting because of the matched competitiveness of all 8 teams, and the season is littered with surprise performances.

USFL Week 8 Expert Predictions for all games this week, including Power Rankings and graphics. Also includes a recap of last week's action and narrative stories.

SATURDAY GAMES

Houston Gamblers(-2.5) @ Pittsburgh Maulers These teams have not yet this year, but in the 2022 season they battled to a nail-biting 21-20 finish, with the Maulers getting the edge. These teams are both at 4th place in their divisions, and the oddsmakers are calling a -2.5 spread for the Gamblers, indicating that this should be a close one. @TheBrysh identifies Pittsburgh as a gritty defensive team, but recognizes the potential for a Houston offence eruption, take the Gamblers 29-18.

Philadelphia Stars @ Birmingham Stallions(-5.5) @TheBrysh has placed the Stallions in the #1 position of the PR’s since Week 1, and I don’t see that changing after Week 8 against the Stars. Philadelphia is riding an emotional high with a 3 game winning streak, and experiencing an offensive breakthrough in Week 7 with 37 points against the Maulers. Birmingham struggled to some degree against a high-octane Breakers offence, but should be able to handle Philly, to bring in a 27-21 victory.

SUNDAY GAMES

Memphis Showboats(-2) @ New Jersey Generals @TheBrysh identifies this matchup as the Game of the Week, as the Showboats are riding a 4 game victory streak, and the Generals have under-performed, but are due to unveil a big performance. New Jersey will be looking to establish the running game early and grind this one out, look for RB Darius Victor and QB De’Andre Johnson to run the ball often. The difference maker in this game will be effective ball control, with the Generals being known for turning the ball over and the ‘Boats for creating takeaways, take Memphis 21-17.

Michigan Panthers @ New Orleans Breakers(-2.5) The Panthers have been the biggest disappointment of the 2023 season, as they are holding on to the 8th spot in the PR’s for the 2nd week. Although they did pull out a “lucky” win against the Generals last week, they do not have an antidote for the New Orleans offence. A poor performance last week from New Orleans’ QB McLeod Bethel-Thompson should be easily shrugged off, as his Breakers will go on to an easy 22-12 win.
