Coming out of the Olympic break, the Columbus Blue Jackets had hoped to extend their win streak, but failed to do so against the Boston Bruins on February 26th. Here are my key takeaways from this first game for both teams since the 3-week break for the Olympics.
Table of Contents
Takeaway 1: Viktor Arvidsson almost scored a hat trick

Bruins right-winger Viktor Arvidsson scored twice for Boston in this game. Quite frankly, he looked like a top player for the Bruins for most, if not all, of the game. Not only was he one missed goal short of a potential hat trick, but he also recorded one takeaway. Doing this in 18 shifts and 14:29 on the ice is honestly not bad for Viktor and the Bruins. Ultimately, his emergence could be great news for Boston’s depth chart.
Takeaway 2: Joonas Korpisalo‘s 36 saves

Bruins Goaltender Joonas Korpisalo had 36 saves, and yes, you read that right. A solid performance for him, especially considering the Blue Jackets had scored 30 goals during their winning streak before the break. If the Blue Jackets want to compete for a Stanley Cup at some point, they need to relearn how to put the puck at the back of the net, to put it simply. Some of their struggles may be caused by potential rust from the Olympic break, but I have a feeling Columbus will get back on track eventually.
Takeaway 3: Columbus needs to get back on track

As a Blue Jackets fan above all else, I have faith we can get back on track before this season comes to a close. Outside of our 6 franchise playoff appearances, the Blue Jackets have historically posed little to no threat to the rest of the NHL. However, with Coach Rick Bowness leading the team to a remarkable 10-1 record in his first 11 games as our Head Coach, it’s hard not to be excited for the future of Columbus Hockey. With Columbus currently 10th in the Eastern Conference, there’s obviously still work to do, but I think anything is possible. Columbus hosts the New York Islanders on February 28th at 6 pm Eastern for their next game.
