When we launched the NLFA, (North Louisiana Football Alliance) in 2019, the idea was simple: give young men a structured opportunity to continue playing football after high school. What I’ve learned over the past several years is that football was never really the point.

Development Goes Beyond the Football Field
Structure was.
Direction was.
Belonging was.
The NLFA was built to serve 18–24-year-olds navigating one of the most uncertain seasons of life — the years immediately after high school. For many of them, college football isn’t an option. For others, college itself isn’t the path. And for some, they aren’t ready to walk away from the game that shaped their identity.
Football becomes the hook.
Development becomes the mission.
Evolution of Football Landscape, How Has NLFA Kept Up with the Times?
Over time, the football landscape around us has evolved. Professional arena programs expanded, including teams like the Louisiana Rouxgaroux of the National Arena League. Naturally, some of our players began viewing the NLFA as a stepping stone — and in some cases, a tryout platform.
We’re proud of the players and coaches who’ve advanced to professional opportunities. That matters. It validates the work.
But something else happened that forced me to rethink our identity.
When players tried out for pro teams and didn’t make the roster, some disengaged entirely. Motivation dipped. Returning to the NLFA felt, to them, like taking a step backward.
Players Looking for Pro Opportunities From NLFA
That was a wake-up call.
It forced me to ask a hard question:
Were we accidentally allowing our league to be defined only by professional advancement?
If that were the only definition of success, most of our players would inevitably feel they had failed.
And that’s not why we exist.
The NLFA is not a professional arena team. We are not designed to compete with professional franchises. We are not a semi-pro entertainment league chasing ticket sales and headlines.
We are a bridge.
NLFA: A Bridge to the Future
A structured, accountable environment where young men can develop discipline, leadership, resilience, and direction.
Some will advance in football.
Some will advance in trades.
Some will advance into stable employment.
Some will simply mature into more focused, responsible men.
All of that is success.
Building a developmental league in today’s sports culture requires resisting the pressure to measure yourself only by who “makes it.” The truth is, most athletes won’t sign professional contracts. But that doesn’t mean the experience lacks value.
Developing Men and Women, Not Just Football Players
In fact, the real impact often happens off the field.
It happens when a player learns how to manage his time.
When he commits to something consistently.
When he finds employment through a partner connection.
When he becomes a better father, employee, or leader in his community.
Professional sports are visible.
Development is quieter.
But development lasts longer.
NLFA: Focus Clearer than Ever
As we enter our 2026 season, my focus is clearer than ever. The North Louisiana Football Alliance is doubling down on its core mission: structured development through football.
That means strengthening workforce partnerships.
It means tracking measurable outcomes beyond touchdowns.
It means building financial sustainability instead of chasing expansion.
It means defining success in broader, healthier terms.
The presence of professional teams in our region isn’t a threat. It’s a reminder that preparation matters. And preparation is what we do.
Football may be the platform.
But development is the legacy.
And that’s what we’re building — one season at a time.
