Every fantasy football season starts with draft boards, projections, and preseason hype. By Week 3, the excuses start running out.
We’ve now seen two weeks of real football, and some backs are already separating themselves from the pack. A few former stars are reminding everyone why they were first-round picks, while some new names are forcing fantasy managers to rethink everything they thought they knew entering 2026.
These rankings aren’t solely based on fantasy points. They’re built using workload, total yardage, touchdown production, receiving involvement, offensive environment, and Week 3 outlook.
As always, fantasy championships are won by running backs who stay on the field, touch the football, and find the end zone.

Elite RB1 Tier
1. Jahmyr Gibbs, Detroit Lions
2026 Stats: 307 Rush Yards | 156 Receiving Yards | 4 Rush TDs | 2 Rec TDs | 98.3 FP
Week 3 Projection: 145 Total Yards, 2 TDs
No running back has been more dangerous through two weeks. Gibbs has already piled up 463 total yards and six touchdowns while serving as both Detroit’s lead runner and one of its most explosive receiving weapons. Right now, he’s the fantasy MVP at the position.
—
2. Kenneth Walker, Chiefs
2026 Stats: 360 Rush Yards | 82 Receiving Yards | 2 Rush TDs | 2 Rec TDs | 83.2 FP
Week 3 Projection: 130 Total Yards, 1 TD
Walker leads all running backs in rushing yards and is receiving true workhorse volume. Pair that with Kansas City’s scoring opportunities and you’ve got one of fantasy football’s safest weekly starters.
—
3. Bijan Robinson, Falcons
2026 Stats: 349 Rush Yards | 118 Receiving Yards | 3 Total TDs | 78.7 FP
Week 3 Projection: 135 Total Yards, 1 TD
Fantasy managers drafted Bijan believing he could become the overall RB1. Through two weeks, he’s looked every bit the part. His combination of usage and talent makes him one of the highest-ceiling players in fantasy football.
—
4. Derrick Henry, Ravens
2026 Stats: 301 Rush Yards | 38 Receiving Yards | 6 Rush TDs | 74.9 FP
Week 3 Projection: 115 Total Yards, 2 TDs
Nobody is more dangerous at the goal line. Henry may not catch as many passes as the backs above him, but six touchdowns through two weeks is impossible to ignore.
—
5. Jonathan Taylor, Colts
2026 Stats: 258 Rush Yards | 67 Receiving Yards | 4 TDs | 63.5 FP
Week 3 Projection: 120 Total Yards, 1 TD
Volume remains king in fantasy football, and Taylor has plenty of it. His 66 carries rank among the league leaders, and that type of workload wins championships.
—
High-End RB1 Tier
6. Ashton Jeanty, Raiders
2026 Stats: 206 Rush Yards | 97 Receiving Yards | 2 Receiving TDs | 55.3 FP
Week 3 Projection: 105 Total Yards, 1 TD
After a promising rookie campaign, Jeanty has taken a major leap in Year 2. The receiving production has been especially encouraging, giving him both a safe floor and explosive weekly upside.
—
7. Christian McCaffrey, 49ers
2026 Stats: 166 Rush Yards | 104 Receiving Yards | 3 Rush TDs | 58 FP
Week 3 Projection: 115 Total Yards, 1 TD
The production hasn’t reached peak McCaffrey levels yet, but smart fantasy managers know better than to panic. The usage remains elite, and the breakout week always feels one game away.
—
8. D’Andre Swift, Bears
2026 Stats: 253 Rush Yards | 68 Receiving Yards | 3 Rush TDs | 56.1 FP
Week 3 Projection: 100 Total Yards, 1 TD
Swift has quietly become one of the league’s most productive backs. Chicago is feeding him touches and giving him opportunities near the goal line.
—
9. Chuba Hubbard, Panthers
2026 Stats: 184 Rush Yards | 77 Receiving Yards | 1 Rush TD | 2 Rec TDs | 53.1 FP
Week 3 Projection: 95 Total Yards, 1 TD
One of the biggest surprises of the season so far. Hubbard has become an important piece of Carolina’s emerging offense and continues producing as both a runner and receiver.
—
10. Kyren Williams, Rams
2026 Stats: 214 Rush Yards | 106 Receiving Yards | 2 Total TDs | 53 FP
Week 3 Projection: 105 Total Yards
Williams remains one of fantasy football’s most dependable volume backs. His involvement in the passing game helps maintain a strong weekly floor.

Biggest Surprises Through Two Weeks
Chuba Hubbard
Most fantasy managers viewed Hubbard as depth heading into the season. Two weeks later, he’s a legitimate every-week starter who has already found the end zone three times.
Kenneth Walker
The move to Kansas City couldn’t have gone much better. Walker leads the NFL in rushing and has quickly become one of fantasy’s highest-scoring backs.
Ashton Jeanty
The second-year back has made the leap from promising young player to fantasy star. His receiving involvement has elevated his value significantly.
Jeremiyah Love
Many fantasy managers weren’t expecting much this early. Love has responded by becoming one of the season’s most productive young backs.

The 303 Bus Driver’s Bold Prediction
Kenneth Walker finishes Week 3 as the overall RB1.
The league’s leading rusher is overdue for a multi-touchdown explosion, and Kansas City’s offense creates too many scoring opportunities to ignore.

Final Thoughts
Running back remains the most important position in fantasy football. Workload matters. Goal-line carries matter. Receiving usage matters.
That’s why Jahmyr Gibbs continues to hold the top spot, while Kenneth Walker, Bijan Robinson, Derrick Henry, and Jonathan Taylor remain firmly in the elite tier.
At the same time, a new generation is making its presence felt. Ashton Jeanty has taken a major Year 2 leap. Chuba Hubbard is proving doubters wrong. And several young backs are beginning to establish themselves as weekly fantasy difference-makers.
Will Gibbs hold onto RB1? Can Walker overtake him? Is Jeanty ready to join fantasy football’s elite? And which veteran back is about to remind everyone why they were drafted so highly?
Those are the questions that will help define Week 3 and the rest of the 2026 fantasy football season.
