Per team and league sources the Pittsburgh Outlaws are taking their years of dominance and indoor football stability to American Indoor Football. Let’s look at the how and why!

Why the move to the AIF?

If you haven’t been keeping up with the WIF season, it has been a bit of a mess. Teams in and teams out, with no clear path forward that leads to meaningful games. Internally, this forced the Outlaws into independence for the winter season, and, at the time, the foreseeable future.
Though the opportunity presented to the Outlaws by the AIF was one that any developmental team would be hard-pressed to pass on, the chance to be Pro. Essentially Pittsburgh will be the first team from Pittsburgh to claim the title of professional since the Power in 2014.
While they won’t have an arena they will participate in the hub system the AIF has created for the 2027 season. No matter the case it is a major move up for the franchise. We at Shady Sports personally know several men that worked tirelessly to ensure the opportunity became a reality and couldn’t be more excited for everyone involved.
Championships and call-ups:

In the developmental arena game call-ups and hardware are the name of the game. If you aren’t winning games and moving guys to bigger leagues you end up short-lived. The Outlaws knew this and it would seem they took it as a challenge. They have moved up the following list of players as of recently-
Tyreer Mills
Meech Cunningham
Lloyd Gallaway
AJ Bowen
Josh Deck
Pap Keeler
All of these players have been invited to camps or on pro rosters for 2027.
They have even moved coaches up with Luke Capuso to the Montgomery Catfish coaching staff:

Even if you discount any move-ups and look solely at hardware, they won the WIF in 2024 and 2025 (back-to-back titles) and the AAL2 North Division title in 2026.
What it means for the Outlaws:

At the end of the day, pro or not, your goal as a coach and even for most organizations is to advance your players. The AIF gives the Outlaws the option to play in arenas, against a list of seasoned teams on a bigger stage.
Yes, they will play quite a few teams that are pure expansion teams, but it will be like nothing they have done in their history. They will play a full schedule with walls, in an arena, and put on full display what fans of the WIF and AAL2 already know!
All we can ask of them now is… well a tall task… but beat the Ironmen!
