NFL WEEK 10: POWER RANKINGS

Welcome back NFL Fans! Week 9 of the 2022 season is behind us, and it’s time to recalculate the NFL Power Rankings for Week 10. @TheBrysh Power Rankings (PR’s) are calculated using a proprietary algorithm, each week the PR calculations will be represented in a 1-16 rating for each Conference. @TheBrysh Power Rankings are also used to calculate weekly predictions, which will be published as well. Week 9 predictions for @TheBrysh were 7/13, for a season total of 77/135 or 57% on straight up wins. As the weeks progress, the numbers get dialed in and the predictions become even more dependable.

NFL WEEK 9: RECAP

THURSDAY NIGHT GAME

With a 14 point spread, the Houston Texans weren’t expected to test the undefeated Philadelphia Eagles in the slightest. The first half may have left critics doubting Philly’s chances, when QB Jalen Hurts fumbled a snap and the Eagles went to the dressing room tied 14-14. In the end, the Texans showed their true colors being outscored 15-3 in the 2nd half to give the Eagles a 29-17 victory. Philly holds on to 2nd while the Texans drop to 16th.

EARLY SUNDAY GAMES

There were 3 games on Sunday that did not result in significant changes in INDIVIDUAL team Power Ranking scores, however relative positions may still be affected. Minnesota beat Washington 20-17, the Jaguars beat the Raiders 27-20 lifting them to 12th in the AFC, Tampa Bay beat the LA Rams 16-13 lifting the Bucc’s to 6th in the NFC PR’s.

The LA Chargers travelled to Atlanta to take on the Falcons, with 3rd year QB Justin Herbert still struggling with a rib injury. Last minute, substitute kicker, Cameron Dicker nailed a 37 yarder on the last play to give the Chargers a 20-17 win, and rise to 9th in the AFC, the Falcons are in 13th in the NFC PR’s.

The Chicago Bears hosted the Miami Dolphins and QB Tua Tagovailoa. Leading the league in most passing efficiency ratings, Tagovailoa looked for an opportunity to light up the scoreboard. Bears QB Justin Fields was up to the challenge of a shootout, but came up short 35-32, the Dolphins climbed to 13th in the AFC.

The Cincinnati Bengals blasted the Carolina Panthers 42-21, thanks to RB Joe Mixon’s 153 yards rushing, 58 yards receiving and 5 TD’s. Add to that, the Bengals defense held Carolina’s offense to 228 total yards, and intercepted QB Baker Mayfield twice. The Bengals remain at 5th while the Panthers are still in 14th.

Detroit Lions pulled off an upset over the Green Bay Packers, although it’s not a HUGE upset considering the Packers’ play this season. In a gritty (boring?), low-scoring game that could have gone either way, Green Bay QB Aaron Rodgers handed the game to the Lions 15-9 with his 3 interceptions. The loss drops the Pack to 12th in the NFC.

New England Patriots held the Indianapolis Colts to only 3 points in a 23 point routing. Bill Belichick may be known for offensive genius, but his defensive game just as potent. The Pat’s defense controlled the Colts with good coverage and pass rushing to an easy 26-3 win. New England remains in 3rd, the Colts continue sliding to 15th in the AFC PR’s.

In the UPSET of the week, The NY Jets beat Buffalo 20-17, the Bills were double digit favorites to win. Buffalo QB Josh Allen did not have an impressive game being sacked 5 time, intercepted 2 times and fumbling the ball twice. The Jets are now in 6th in the NFC, the Bills are still rated 1st in the AFC PR’s

I’ve been harping since Week 1, I hope I sound like a broken record…the Raiders are OVERRATED! The Raiders struck first against the Jacksonville Jaguars, leading 17-0 after the 1st half. The Raiders 2nd half was a display of punting, turnovers and a fumble. Jacksonville took the win 27-20 and climbed from 13th to 12th in the AFC.

LATE SUNDAY GAMES

The Arizona Cardinals were favourites against the Seattle Seahawks this week, and their defense nearly kept them in the game. “Cardinal” errors were committed like a snap over the QB, false starts, fumbles and a gimmick play. The Seahawks took the UPSET 31-21, dropping the Card’s to 9th in the NFC.

The KC Chiefs underperformed against the Titans, but still came out with a win 20-17. Another 400+ yard passing night for Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes sealed the deal against a Tennessee offense highlighted by RB Derrick Henry’s 115 yards rushing. The Titans kept the game close and rise to 7th.

MONDAY NIGHT GAME

The Baltimore Ravens travelled to New Orleans and beat the Saints 27-13. Ravens defense nullified the Saints with 4 QB Sacks, an INT and limited their top rusher to 30 yards. Ravens QB Lamar Jackson and RB Kenyan Drake combined for 175 yards and 2 TD’s. The Ravens hold 4th, the Saints drop to 8th.
