AAL2 Rookie Spotlight: Lynn Townsend II

Sometimes football is more than a paycheck or a path forward, it’s simply a passion that you’ll never let go of. We had the chance to sit down with Ohio Legends Rookie Lynn Townsend II, a man who has a deep passion for the sport. How much does he love the sport? Well enough to be a rookie at the ripe age of 34.
He comes into the fold with the Legends after spending one year as a walk-on at Kent State; and a staggering ELEVEN years in the semi-pro ranks. While in the semi-pro ranks he would hold steady as a go-to, any position, any team need kind of player, though mostly as a wide receiver and running back. As of 2025 he has been a part of three undefeated teams and countless championships.
“Rookie” Season Comes in Many Shapes and Sizes
He is, in fact, a rookie, but was only weeks from that not being the case. He was signed to play for the Marion Blue Racers and was in camp before they folded in 2016. The ability to play indoor ball in Marion, Ohio again felt like things were coming full circle.
When asked about his goals for 2026 he made it clear that he wanted to contribute more than anything. Stats are important but advancing his team meant more. He is very much a family man, when the topic of moving up came around, he said he would but it would have to fit him and his family over everything else.
Overall we were impressed with the attitude of the 5’8” RB/WR. The attitude towards the opportunity seemed to be nothing but grateful. He even praised the coaching staff and ownership on how he was treated and the overall experience of being signed. We at Shady Sports will definitely be keeping an eye on Townsend during the AAL2 season.
AAL2 Update:
Ohio Legends on the Rise
Several Sources have hinted at the fact that this franchise has no intention of sitting still at the level they are now. Not to mention multiple moves point to this being an extremely organized franchise.
What moves? Well, to start with rumors are flying that they may very well be the only AAL2 playing in an arena. This is huge, though it doesn’t exactly say “we are pushing to be pro”, it very well could be the reason. If you recall the last three AAL2 teams to upgrade to an arena went on to move up to the NAL, and then AAL. Most recently the Mississippi Wolfpack.
The other move is the quality of signings, including the Lynn we mentioned above. Most of their signings are high-level semi-pro guys and lower-level arena rebounds. The 2026 Legends will be anything but a thrown-together team. If you check their socials, they have been preparing all offseason with scrimmages and even searching for pro and preseason opponents. The structure of this team seems to be a step above, and it will show come kick off. I would fully expect this franchise to flourish, despite being in the single toughest division in the AAL2.
Michigan Avengers Ascending

As many who follow the game closely have heard the Michigan Avengers have hired coach Tom Menas. Not only will he be the Head Coach, but he will also act as an Ownership Consultant. The Ownership Consultant side of his duties is mainly meant to be an avenue for advancing the Avengers. Menas comes with years of Indoor and Arena coaching experience, recently even being the head playcaller for the Mass, now Orlando Pirates.
The in-depth interview on Around the Indoor Football gave all of us confidence that you will see a well-run Franchise that has a good hold on recruiting and development. Keep your eyes on the head coach and team this spring, the move-ups will happen, and a deep Playoff run is probable. At the very least you will find that the coaching and development will be above the standard.
Mid-Michigan Partners with Shady Sports.

This Article was about the teams time in the WIF, but the Partnership has been confirmed to continue into the 2026 AAL2 season. Shady Sports will be your one stop shop for everything AAL or AAL2 in 2026.
AAL Ties
While this one may seem obvious, it still provides the kind of strong hold the league needs to survive for years to come. When a developmental league has a direct connection to a pro league, it will, by default, bring in higher-level talent. Several AAL2 teams fill out home schedules for the AAL. This by itself gives a ton of spotlight to the athletes.
We can’t say too much but the connection will be more than just a thought in the next few months and into the season. Commissioners Roque and O’Hanlon have well-drawn-out plans for an AAL draft of AAL2 players. The draft will ensure that they not only get talent, but said talent will want to be in the AAL2. Keep your eyes on AAL and AAL2 socials between the two seasons starting and ending!
Overall, the AAL2 and the athletes, coaches, and owners who make up the league have really set themselves apart as of recent. No other developmental league has attracted the level of teams that commissioner AJ Roque has. Just look at the list of teams and who runs them and it will be obvious. The standard hasn’t been raised overnight, here we detail how it’s been done over the past three seasons. Don’t forget to tune into Turf Talk, Shady Sports podcast exclusively on the AAL2!
