Recently, I had the opportunity to interview Joshua Brown, a rising running back and linebacker who is preparing to take the next step in his professional career. After making his mark with the Pittsburgh Outlaws, Joshua Brown has earned a chance to play for the Texas Syndicate in the Continental Football League.

For many players, the path to higher levels of football isn’t always straightforward. Joshua Brown started his football career at West Mifflin Area High School, where he played linebacker and was selected to the Second-Team All-Conference as a guard. After graduating in 2019, Joshua Brown went to Waynesburg University. A lack of varsity playtime would lead him to make stops at Steel City Prep, Bethany College, and Thiel College before joining the Pittsburgh Outlaws following his collegiate career. Below is our conversation:

How did it feel when you got the call to sign with the Texas Syndicate?
It felt great. I had a contract before them with the Wyoming Cavaliers, and they messed around with getting back to me. By the time they did, I had signed with the Syndicate.
For fans who may not know your game yet, how would you describe yourself as a player?
I’m very consistent, dominant, motivated, and dedicated. And I want all my fans to know that no matter what, I come to put a show on for them.
Was there a moment in your football career where you realized you could really play at the professional level?
I just knew eventually I was going to make it. I was just being patient with it. I knew it was going to take some time and hard work, but after I got that first call from the Pittsburgh Outlaws, I took the shot.
What’s something fans might not know about the work that goes into transitioning from arena to gridiron football?
Arena definitely makes you tougher as a player. There’s a lot of tough guys that come from arena football, and I feel like when they come back to outdoor 11 man football they become dominant players. There isn’t as much room to work with, so every handoff you take and every ball you catch, you learn to go harder every single play.
What do you feel you bring to this team, on and off the field, that can help them succeed this season?
Never giving up on a play. No matter how tired I am, no matter the bruises, no matter the pain, I’m bringing it every play.
What motivates you to play football now that you’ve joined the Syndicate?
My motivation is my family, number one. My grandma played a big role in me playing football from the time I was 10 years old. My mom alone had to raise us, but she was a strong mother. We got through it. But a lot of things I went through in my life motivated me to this point in time. I worked hard, I knew how it felt to have nothing and I know what it’s like to have something now. It’s everything I dreamed of as a kid.
What message do you have for the Texas Syndicate Fans who will see you on the field this summer?
Buy your tickets, get your VIP seats and enjoy the show. We’re coming for that championship.
As he prepares for this next chapter in the Continental Football League, Joshua Brown carries the confidence and experience he built during his time with the Outlaws. With a new opportunity ahead and a chance to prove himself on a bigger stage, he’s focused on continuing to grow as a player and making the most of the moment.
