The American Arena League action we got out of week two left most of us in absolute shock. The results were the exact opposite of what anyone in the media or on forums could have predicted. While the on-field results may not have been predictable, the stability and overall strength of the year-one reboot were on full display. Week three will be more of the same! Week 2 Rundown
Jersey 42 Mississippi 8

The 2025 AAL2 championship rematch didn’t go anything like we expected. AJ Roques’ squad showed up in Mississippi looking as if they were already in midseason form. The other side of the line was a completely different story. Outside of an end-of-half score, the offense seemed to sputter more often than not. The overall result on the surface seemed to be just another tale of good versus unprepared. Instead, if you go below the surface its more of a story of talent retention compared to a team still building team cohesion.
Mississippi last year at this point was still building up to having an arena, while Jersey in one league or another has been around since 2018. In other words, no matter the result both of these teams are at different places. Mississippi is still finding its identity. The game saw a lot of rushed passes, and a difficulty from the Wolfpack offensive line to hold the jersey front three. The bright spot?
We saw excellent outside runs from Jason Hall. Jersey on the other hand was what we have come to expect, the talent was above board, and Matteo and the offense made plays when needed and looked efficient. The stats aren’t 100% clear for Matteo, but just from watching, you can tell he is more than capable. Overall, it was a tough game, and Mississippi has a lot of work to do but the season isn’t even a third of the way done.
Wheeling 44 Columbus 46

The Wheeling Miners took a road trip to the Columbus Civic Center in Georgia for a Week 2 AAL showdown with the Columbus Lions, delivering one of the most entertaining arena football games of the weekend. In a back-and-forth battle, the Miners came up just short in a 46–44 loss, but showed they can go stride for stride with one of the league’s most established franchises. Despite the result, Wheeling’s performance in its AAL debut sent a clear message; they’re here to compete.
Quarterback Daryll Clark led the charge with poise and production, accounting for five total touchdowns and 178 total yards (152 passing, 26 rushing). Wide receiver Alex Coleman emerged as a key target, hauling in four receptions for 53 yards and two scores, while Dontae Mason made his presence felt across the field with nine tackles, 154 return yards, and a touchdown.
The offensive line showed flashes but is still a work in progress, surrendering 3.5 sacks, five tackles for loss, and a turnover forced by Columbus’ Dekoven Ware. A highlight up front came when Kam Wright found the end zone on a pass from Clark, showcasing versatility from the unit. It’s a group still building chemistry, but there’s enough upside to expect improvement heading into Week 3.
Defensively, the Miners had trouble consistently slowing down a high-powered Columbus offense that found its rhythm early and rarely let up. However, J.T. Taylor provided a pivotal moment with a fourth-quarter pick-six that cut the deficit to 40–38 and kept Wheeling within striking distance until the final whistle.

Week 3 Previews
Mississippi at Columbus(-17.5)

This is hands down the biggest mismatch you’ll find outside of the AAL vs AAL2 games. Mississippi comes into this game with more questions than answers, especially on the offensive side of the ball. Columbus on the other hand has an absolute unit on defense that scored more safeties (2) than it allowed TDs (0) against the RiverGators. The statistically worst offense against a defense that has only allowed 44 points in two total games may lead to an early, insurmountable lead.
The biggest jump for Mississippi coming into this game is the signing of William Walters. Walters spent time with Louisiana this season, even starting in an early-season loss. He may give them the ability to get the ball out on time, and a slight chance for yards on the scramble. Columbus on the other hand has who they need at QB, Blaine Espinoza, who seems to command the offense, as long as the Lions aren’t in isn’t in the redzone.Overall expect a lot of fight from Mississippi, but a multiscore victory from Columbus.
Jersey at Wheeling (-3.5)

Now, the Miners turn their attention to Week 3, where they’ll host the Jersey Bearcats in their home opener at WesBanco Arena. Jersey enters the matchup with momentum following a 42–8 win over the Mississippi Wolfpack, powered by quarterback Matteo Rodriguez, who threw for three touchdowns and added two more on the ground.
If Wheeling is going to break into the win column, it’ll require another high-level performance from Clark and a more balanced offensive attack. The Bearcats present a slightly less formidable defensive front than Columbus, which could open the door for a more consistent run game. Still, tightening up defensively and on special teams will be critical. Jersey brings another explosive offense capable of capitalizing on mistakes and short fields. If the Miners can maintain their offensive firepower while finding more consistency on defense, they’re in a strong position to secure their first AAL victory in front of the home crowd.

AAL League News

At least for this week, this section doesn’t have much to report on. As any indoor or arena fan can attest this is sometimes a good thing. The American Arena League continues to show all the signs of overall stability that is lacking in much of arena ball. The joy of watching teams like Mississippi and Jersey build can be described. This paired with decent parody has proven many doubters wrong!

Peach State @ Carolina

This is a Battle that will most likely decide the AAL2 South. These two have been in various leagues over the past few seasons but are no strangers to each other. After Mississippi’s exit, this is the best of what is left. Don’t expect a ton of points, but definitely expect a gritty game. Check both teams’ socials for links to watch the stream!

Legends Arena Work in Progress

Many casual fans were quick to point out any issues that faced the Ohio Legends’ setup last Saturday. While it isn’t on the same level as teams on the AAL level, you have to consider where this team is and the building aspect of the franchise. They have plenty of season to perfect the setup, and are even ahead of where many of us thought they would be. Keep tuning in to see the progress they make as the season goes on
Peach State Rebounds
After taking their licks against the higher competition, the AALs Mississippi Wolfpack it would seem Peach State is back upright. I’m a show of defensive might they held the RiverGators to just a single TD. They are still our favorite to win the entire thing.
