🚌 The Bus Stop NFL Week 5 Pickem: Broncos Bounce Back, NBA Is Back & Statik’s Stamp Delivers

The Bus Stop Week 5
The Bus Stop Week 5 Recap

By Cedric “The Bus Driver” Green

A wild week of NFL action featured London drama, a Monday Night Football overtime classic, a Broncos bounce-back win, NBA storylines, and another edition of Statik’s Stamp as the Bus Stop standings continued to tighten.

One of my goals this season is to make these Bus Stop articles feel less like recaps and more like an extension of what happens every Sunday morning on The Bus Stop LIVE.

If you’ve ridden with us before, you already know the vibe. We’re talking football, debating picks, celebrating wins, collecting receipts, discussing the Broncos, arguing about basketball, reviewing music, and occasionally heading completely off the rails before finding our way back.

And before we get started, let’s clear up something for new readers.

Cedric “The Bus Driver” Green and Gemini are the same person.

When you see Gemini in the standings, you’re looking at my picks. When we mention the Bus Drivers, we’re talking about the larger community that rides with us every week and helps fuel the conversation.

Now that we’ve got that out of the way…

Week 5 gave us everything.

A London thriller.

A shockingly dominant Patriots performance.

A Broncos bounce-back win.

And one of the best Monday Night Football games we’ve seen all season.

🏆 Week 5 Results

Week 5 started with an immediate reminder that the NFL doesn’t care about your confidence picks.

For the second consecutive week, the entire Bus Stop crew opened the week with a loss after backing the Cowboys on Thursday Night Football. Instead, the Buccaneers walked out of Dallas with a 24-16 victory and immediately put everyone behind the eight ball.

Despite the rough start, there was still plenty of movement in the standings.

Week 5 Records

🥇 Reem: 9-7

🥈 Gemini: 8-8

🥈 Statik: 8-8

Reem delivered the strongest week of the three and managed to create a little more separation at the top of the standings.

The race is far from over, but Week 5 belonged to Reem.

One thing is becoming clear: every week matters a little more as the season rolls on.

—

📊 Season Standings After Week 5

🥇 Reem (44-34-1)

🥈 Gemini (42-36-1)

🥉 Statik (38-40-1)

Only two games separate first and second place heading into Week 6.

Just a few weeks ago, Gemini looked like a long shot after a rough Week 1. Since then, the gap has steadily narrowed, even if Reem managed to hold serve this week.

Statik remains within striking distance and knows one hot week can completely reshape the leaderboard.

The standings may not look dramatically different than they did a month ago, but every missed pick is starting to carry a little more weight.

The margin for error is shrinking.

And with another slate of difficult games arriving in Week 6, the Bus Stop Pick’em race is only getting more interesting.

🌍 London Delivers More Chaos

The NFL returned to London and somehow managed to produce another classic.

The game was actually unfolding live while The Bus Stop crew was on the air, which made the reactions even better.

For most teams, a late touchdown drive that gives you the lead with under two minutes remaining should be enough to secure a victory.

Philadelphia appeared to do exactly that.

The Eagles marched down the field and took a 17-16 lead, and for a brief moment it looked like they had escaped London with a win.

Then The Bus Stop watched everything unravel in real time.

Almost immediately after Philadelphia took the lead, Jacksonville ripped off a kickoff return of more than 50 yards, instantly flipping field position and putting the Jaguars in business.

The reaction from the crew was immediate.

Instead of celebrating an Eagles comeback, the conversation quickly turned into disbelief over how Philadelphia could allow a return that big in that situation.

One special teams mistake completely changed the game.

A few plays later, Jacksonville drilled the game-winning field goal and walked away with a 19-17 victory.

What made the discussion so entertaining was that nobody on the panel seemed surprised.

Throughout the show, the crew repeatedly questioned whether Philadelphia knew how to finish games and whether the Eagles were creating their own problems.

By the time Jacksonville completed the comeback, the live reactions were less shock and more:

“How did the Eagles find another way to lose this game?”

That became one of the running themes of the episode.

The Jaguars continue finding ways to win.

The Eagles continue finding ways to make life difficult on themselves.

Meanwhile, Jacksonville is quietly building one of the more impressive resumes in the league. The Jaguars have now won multiple close games, continue passing important tests, and are starting to look like a team that deserves much more national attention than it’s getting.

As for Philadelphia?

The talent is still there.

The results just aren’t.

And after another late-game collapse in front of an international audience, the questions surrounding the Eagles are only getting louder.

🔥 Monday Night Football Was Everything We Wanted

If you stayed up for Bills-Rams, you got your money’s worth.

Actually, if you turned the game off early, you missed one of the best games of the entire season.

Buffalo escaped Los Angeles with a thrilling 37-34 overtime victory in a game that had everything football fans could ask for: big plays, momentum swings, late-game heroics, overtime drama, and one unforgettable finish.

The game was already entertaining on its own, but it became even better from a Bus Stop perspective.

While the game was unfolding, Statik dropped a random GIF into the group chat.

No context.

No explanation.

Just two Cowboys shooting.

That was enough for Gemini to realize something was wrong.

Not with the Cowboys.

With himself.

He wasn’t even watching the game.

By the time the TV got flipped over to Bills-Rams, the game was just entering the fourth quarter.

What followed felt less like football and more like organized chaos.

Touchdowns.

Big runs.

Lead changes.

Clutch throws.

Overtime.

At one point it felt like Gemini witnessed more scoring in a half of football than the Broncos had scored all season.

Maybe not literally.

But after watching Buffalo and Los Angeles trade haymakers for the next hour, it certainly felt that way.

The game also carried real consequences for the Bus Stop standings.

Statik rolled with Buffalo.

Reem and Gemini both backed the Rams.

So every big play was accompanied by another message in the group chat and another receipt waiting to be collected.

Then came one of the most surprising storylines of the night.

With Buffalo’s victory, Josh Allen finally earned the first overtime win of his NFL career, ending an improbable 0-7 record in overtime games entering the night. Allen finished with 331 total yards and helped the Bills survive one of the wildest games of the young season.

Considering Allen’s résumé, that’s an astonishing statistic.

One of the league’s best quarterbacks.

An MVP.

Multiple playoff runs.

Yet until Monday night, he had never won an overtime game.

The Bills needed every bit of Allen’s magic, a blocked Rams field goal in overtime, and a clutch kick from Tyler Bass to finally get it done.

And that’s what made Bills-Rams such a perfect Monday Night Football game.

It wasn’t just entertaining.

It mattered.

The standings felt it.

The group chat felt it.

And if Week 5 taught us anything, it’s that NFL fans should never go to bed early on a Monday night.

Mile High Check-In: Broncos Get Back in the Win Column… Sort Of

No Bus Stop article would be complete without checking in on the Broncos.

After taking a punch from San Francisco the week before, Denver managed to get back in the win column with a 23-17 victory over the Chargers.

But let’s be honest.

This wasn’t exactly a game that will be featured on Broncos highlight reels for the next decade.

This was an U-G-L-Y win.

Then again, give me an ugly win over an ugly loss every single time.

At several points throughout the game, frustration started creeping in. Open receivers were flashing across the screen, opportunities were there to be made, and Gemini found himself yelling at the television:

“Throw the freakin’ ball, mayne!”

The Broncos offense never looked comfortable for long stretches of the afternoon.

The Running Game Still Has Questions

Denver’s rushing attack looked better than it did against San Francisco.

That’s the good news.

The bad news?

The bar was pretty low.

The Broncos showed slight improvement on the ground, but the running game is still struggling to become the consistent weapon Sean Payton envisioned when the season started.

Too often the offense found itself facing long downs and putting additional pressure on Bo Nix and the passing game.

—

Thank Goodness For The Defense

Luckily for Denver, they weren’t playing themselves.

They were playing the Chargers.

And once again, the Broncos defense came through when the game mattered most.

With the game hanging in the balance during the fourth quarter, Denver’s defense delivered exactly what championship-caliber defenses do.

First came the huge fumble recovery.

Then came the interception.

Ballgame.

The offense did just enough.

The defense did the rest.

Sound familiar?

Because Broncos Country has seen that formula before.

—

Can This Defense Pull Off Another 2015?

That question started popping up during the show.

Can this defense carry Denver the way the legendary 2015 defense carried the Broncos to a Super Bowl?

That’s obviously a massive comparison and there is still a long way to go before anybody puts this unit in the same conversation.

But the idea isn’t completely crazy.

This defense continues creating turnovers.

This defense continues keeping Denver in football games.

This defense continues giving the offense opportunities to figure things out.

The bigger question is whether the offense can catch up before the defense gets tired of carrying the load.

—

Sean Payton Takes Back Control

One of the more interesting developments from Week 5 involved Sean Payton reclaiming play-calling duties from Davis Webb.

The immediate results were noticeable.

For the first time all season, the Broncos managed to record a first down on their opening drive.

That may not sound like much.

For this offense?

It was practically a parade.

But while the offense showed a few signs of life, there are still concerns about Bo Nix’s development.

The expectation was that Nix would continue progressing each week.

Instead, there have been stretches where it feels like he’s pressing, hesitating, and second-guessing throws that need to come out immediately.

That’s not unusual for a young quarterback.

It’s just part of the growing pains.

Still, if Denver wants to become a legitimate playoff team, the offense has to start matching the level of play coming from the defense.

—

Looking Ahead

The timing isn’t exactly ideal.

Next up is a Thursday night showdown against the defending champion Seahawks.

A short week.

A tough opponent.

And not much time to fix what’s been wrong offensively.

The good news?

The bye week isn’t far away.

And Arizona on the other side of that break feels like a game where Denver could have an opportunity to reset and get back on track offensively.

Regardless of what happens Thursday night, it’s important to keep the bigger picture in mind.

The Broncos have already worked through one of the toughest stretches of their entire schedule.

Chiefs.

Jaguars.

Rams.

49ers.

Chargers.

Seahawks.

That isn’t exactly an easy opening six weeks.

And yet Denver sits at 3-2.

If someone offered Broncos Country a 3-2 record before the season started while looking at that schedule, most fans would’ve signed the paper immediately.

The wins haven’t always been pretty.

The offense hasn’t always been fun to watch.

But the record says 3-2.

And right now, that’s all that matters. 🏈🔥

The Bus Stop Live

🚍 Ride The Bus

Jacksonville Jaguars

At some point, we have to stop acting surprised.

The Jaguars flew across the Atlantic and did what they’ve done repeatedly over the last few seasons: handle business in London.

What made this one stand out wasn’t just the win. It was how they won it.

Philadelphia drove the field late and took a one-point lead, only for Jacksonville to respond immediately with a massive kickoff return that completely flipped the game. Minutes later, the Jaguars were celebrating another London victory while the Eagles were searching for answers.

During the show, the crew couldn’t stop talking about how Jacksonville seems to thrive in these international games while Philadelphia keeps finding creative ways to lose football games.

The Jaguars aren’t an underdog story anymore.

They’re becoming one of the league’s most battle-tested teams.

—

Denver Broncos

This wasn’t pretty.

Nobody on The Bus Stop pretended it was.

In fact, several times during the show, the conversation turned into frustration over missed opportunities, open receivers, and an offense that continues to make things harder than they need to be.

Gemini summed up the mood of Broncos Country perfectly at one point while yelling at the television:

“Throw the freakin’ ball, mayne!”

And yet, when the final whistle blew, Denver was walking off the field with a win.

That’s what good football teams do.

After getting punched in the mouth by San Francisco a week earlier, the Broncos responded by grinding out an ugly victory over the Chargers.

The offense remains a work in progress.

The running game remains inconsistent.

But the defense once again delivered when it mattered most, forcing a fumble and then sealing the game with a late interception.

The Broncos may not be where fans want them to be yet.

But at 3-2 after running through one of the toughest stretches of their schedule, they’re exactly where they need to be.

—

Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens and Falcons gave us one of the most entertaining games of Week 5.

Baltimore looked ready to put Atlanta away multiple times, but the Falcons kept answering.

Eventually, the Ravens did what elite teams are supposed to do.

They found a way.

Overtime isn’t always pretty, and nobody is handing out style points in October.

A win is a win.

The crew spent plenty of time discussing whether Atlanta deserved more credit than the Ravens for simply surviving, but the reality is simple:

When the dust settled, Baltimore was still standing.

And that’s why they’re still one of the AFC’s measuring sticks.

—

Green Bay Packers

A few weeks ago the Packers were getting cooked on The Bus Stop.

After getting embarrassed by Atlanta, there were legitimate questions about the offense, the running game, and whether Green Bay was who people thought they were.

Then they responded.

And responded loudly.

The Packers dismantled Chicago 31-7 and reminded everybody that one bad loss doesn’t define a season.

The show conversation centered around whether Green Bay fixed its problems or simply caught the Bears on a bad day.

Either way, Jordan Love and company needed a statement performance.

They got one.

And for at least one week, Packers fans can finally exhale.

—

🚌 Ride The Short Bus

Philadelphia Eagles

At this point, the Eagles have become regular passengers on the short bus.

And the crazy part?

They’re doing it to themselves.

Philadelphia did the hard part in London. The Eagles drove down the field late, scored, and took a one-point lead with less than two minutes remaining.

Game over, right?

Not quite.

Jacksonville immediately answered with a massive kickoff return that completely flipped field position before eventually setting up the game-winning field goal and sending the Eagles home with another painful loss.

During the live show, the reaction wasn’t shock.

It was disbelief.

The crew kept coming back to the same question:

How do you keep finding new ways to lose football games?

The talent is there.

The roster is there.

But the results aren’t.

And every week it feels like Philadelphia finds a new way to turn a winnable game into a frustrating loss.

—

Las Vegas Raiders

This wasn’t a loss.

This was a public service announcement.

The Raiders walked into Week 5 looking to build on a strong start to the season.

Instead, they got run out of the building by New England.

A lot of people expected the Patriots to be competitive.

Nobody expected a 45-17 demolition.

The Bus Stop crew spent a good chunk of the show talking about how quickly the Raiders went from one of the hottest stories in football to a team everyone is suddenly questioning again.

Were they exposed?

Was it just a bad day?

That’s the debate.

But one thing everyone agreed on:

If you lose by 28 points, you earned your seat on the short bus this week.

—

⚜️ New Orleans Saints

The Saints started the season looking like one of the league’s surprise stories.

Now?

Things are getting a little shaky.

After getting blown out by Atlanta a week earlier, New Orleans followed it up with another disappointing performance against the Buccaneers.

What’s frustrating for Saints fans is that this roster still shows flashes.

There are moments where New Orleans looks like a playoff contender.

Then there are moments where they look completely stuck in neutral.

The crew talked about consistency more than anything.

Because right now that’s the biggest issue.

The Saints aren’t bad enough to be written off.

They’re just not playing well enough to be trusted.

And in the NFL, that’s one of the worst places a team can be.

—

🧾 Receipt Department

Every week somebody gets to talk.

Every week somebody has to listen.

And Week 5 delivered plenty of receipts.

🏆 Reem’s Receipt

While most people were focused on the Raiders’ hot start, Reem was the only member of the crew willing to ride with New England.

That pick looked risky when the selections were made.

By Sunday afternoon, it looked brilliant.

The Patriots didn’t just beat Las Vegas.

They embarrassed them.

New England’s 45-17 blowout victory became one of the biggest surprises of the week and helped Reem post the best record of the Bus Stop crew. Reem also correctly backed Baltimore in a tough road matchup against Atlanta, giving him another important win in the standings race.

Sometimes being the only person on an island pays off.

—

🎯 Statik’s Receipt

Week 5 was all about trusting your instincts.

While the rest of the crew found themselves sweating through Monday Night Football, Statik stayed loyal to Buffalo.

That confidence paid off.

The Bills escaped Los Angeles with a 37-34 overtime victory, and in the process Josh Allen finally recorded the first overtime win of his NFL career after entering the game 0-7 in overtime contests.

Statik also joined Reem on Baltimore, correctly riding with the Ravens when Atlanta looked like one of the hottest teams in football.

Two difficult games.

Two correct picks.

Not a bad week at all.

🤕 Gemini’s Receipt

Sometimes the receipt isn’t about a game you lost.

It’s about a game you almost stole.

Gemini backed Washington while Reem and Statik went in different directions.

For most of the afternoon, it looked like the Commanders might come through and deliver one of the biggest swings in the standings race.

Then came one of the strangest endings of the week.

Late in the game, Jayden Daniels broke free on a scramble that looked like it might put Washington in position to win. Instead, the drive stalled, the game ended in a tie, and what looked like a potential standings-changing pick became a loss for everybody.

As I watched the replay, it felt like Daniels took a nap somewhere in the middle of that scramble.

One second Washington looked destined to steal the game.

The next, the opportunity was gone.

Had the Commanders finished that drive, Gemini would’ve picked up a valuable game on both Reem and Statik.

Instead, everyone walked away empty-handed.

Sometimes football is a game of inches.

Sometimes it’s a game of one missed opportunity.

And sometimes it’s both.

😂 The Receipt Nobody Wanted

For the second straight week…

The entire Bus Stop crew started the football weekend with a loss.

All three hosts backed Dallas on Thursday Night Football.

All three hosts watched Tampa Bay leave with the win.

At this point, Thursday Night Football might deserve its own spot on the short bus.

—

🏀 NBA Is Back

Football may own Sundays, but basketball is officially back.

The NBA made its return to the Bus Stop discussion this week, and there was no shortage of storylines.

LeBron’s Final Chapter in Philadelphia

LeBron entering a season with the 76ers remains one of the league’s biggest storylines.

Can Philadelphia finally get over the hump?

Can LeBron make one more championship run?

And how does this season impact his legacy?

Those questions will follow the Sixers all year.

Ben Simmons Gets a Fresh Start

After years of injuries, criticism, and uncertainty, Ben Simmons is looking to rebuild his career in Sacramento.

The talent has never been the question.

The consistency has.

The Kings may be the perfect spot for one of the league’s most fascinating comeback stories.

🏀 Nuggets Watch: The Window Is Still Open

The NFL may own Sundays right now, but basketball season has officially arrived, and that means Nuggets talk is starting to become a bigger part of The Bus Stop.

This week’s conversation centered around one simple question:

Have the Nuggets done enough to maximize Nikola Jokić’s championship window?

That’s a question Denver fans are going to wrestle with all season.

Every championship contender eventually reaches a point where expectations aren’t measured by playoff appearances or regular season records.

They’re measured by banners.

The Nuggets have reached that stage.

As long as Nikola Jokić is wearing a Denver uniform, the expectation is no longer simply making the playoffs.

It’s competing for championships.

—

Christian Braun’s Moment

One player who came up repeatedly during the conversation was Christian Braun.

The Nuggets have spent the last few seasons developing Braun into a larger piece of the puzzle, and now comes the biggest test of his career.

Can he become more than a high-energy role player?

Can he become a legitimate difference-maker?

The talent has always been there.

The confidence appears to be growing.

Now the responsibility is growing too.

The Bus Stop crew agreed that this season feels like a pivot point for Braun’s development.

Denver doesn’t need him to become an All-Star.

But they do need him to become more than just a complementary piece.

—

Life After Peyton Watson

Another topic that generated discussion was the departure of Peyton Watson.

Watson brought athleticism, defensive versatility, and energy off the bench.

Players with that skill set aren’t always easy to replace.

The question now becomes whether Denver has enough internal growth to make up for those lost minutes or whether the Nuggets will eventually need outside help.

Good teams survive roster turnover.

Great teams adapt to it.

Denver believes it can do both.

—

The Jokić Question

Every Nuggets conversation eventually circles back to the same place.

Nikola Jokić.

He’s still the engine.

He’s still the reason Denver enters every season believing it can compete with anyone.

But Jokić’s greatness also creates pressure on the organization.

When you have the best player in the world, every season becomes precious.

Every roster move matters.

Every playoff run matters.

Every missed opportunity gets magnified.

That’s why the conversation wasn’t really about whether Denver is a good team.

Everybody already knows that.

The real discussion was whether this roster is championship-level good.

—

The Bus Stop Question

How many more championships can Denver realistically win during the Jokić era?

One?

Two?

More?

The answer to that question will shape every Nuggets conversation moving forward.

—

Looking Ahead

As football season continues, the NFL will remain the main course at The Bus Stop.

But don’t get comfortable.

The NBA is back.

Nuggets Watch is officially back.

And as the weather gets colder and the football season winds down, expect basketball conversations to take up more and more space on the route.

Because in Denver, championship expectations don’t stop when football ends.

They just move from Empower Field to Ball Arena.

—

🎵 Statik’s Stamp: Gas or Trash?

No Bus Stop episode is complete without talking music.

🔥 GAS

Pitbull’s new album

One of the biggest surprises of the week.

The crew gave Pitbull unexpected love after checking out the project.

🔥 GAS

Busta Rhymes & Toby Nwigwe

Strong reviews from the panel.

🔥 STILL IN ROTATION

Quavo

Another week.

Another mention.

The Bus Stop crew continues showing love to Quavo’s recent work.

🤔 MIXED REVIEWS

Offset & Don Toliver – “Every Night”

Not everybody was feeling it.

Not everybody hated it.

The debate was spirited.

Which probably means the song accomplished its job.

—

🏈 Looking Ahead To Week 6

For the first time in a few weeks, the standings feel like they’re starting to matter a little more.

Reem continues to hold the lead.

Gemini remains within striking distance.

Statik is looking for the type of week that can completely change the race.

With nobody pulling away from the field, Week 6 presents another opportunity for movement.

And judging by the slate of games, there will be plenty of opportunities for receipts.

✅ Consensus Picks

Sometimes the crew agrees.

History says that’s usually a dangerous sign.

This week’s unanimous selections:

  • Broncos over Seahawks
  • Jaguars over Texans
  • Patriots over Jets
  • Panthers over Eagles
  • Steelers over Buccaneers
  • Saints over Giants
  • Colts over Titans
  • Ravens over Browns
  • Rams over Cardinals
  • Chiefs over Chargers

Several of these games feel like statement opportunities.

The Broncos are trying to prove they’re more than a team surviving on defense.

The Jaguars continue chasing respect.

And the Eagles now find themselves in the rare position of being a unanimous pick against.

That’s never where a contender wants to be.

—

👀 Biggest Split Decisions

These are the games that could ultimately decide next week’s standings.

Bears vs Falcons

Statik: Falcons
Reem: Bears
Gemini: Falcons

This game produced one of the biggest debates of the show.

Are the Falcons legitimate contenders?

Or are the Bears quietly becoming one of the NFC’s most dangerous teams?

Atlanta has stacked impressive wins.

Chicago keeps surprising people.

Something has to give.

—

Bills vs Raiders

Statik: Raiders
Reem: Bills
Gemini: Bills

After surviving the Rams in overtime, Buffalo immediately finds itself in another important game.

Meanwhile, the Raiders are trying to convince everyone that the Patriots loss was simply a bad week and not a warning sign.

Statik is buying the bounce-back.

The rest of the crew isn’t quite convinced.

—

Cowboys vs Packers

Statik: Packers
Reem: Cowboys
Gemini: Packers

One of the biggest legacy games of the week.

Two fan bases that never panic publicly, but somehow always seem one loss away from doing exactly that.

Green Bay looked rejuvenated against Chicago.

Dallas is coming off another important win.

The Bus Stop crew couldn’t agree on who to trust.

Which probably tells you everything you need to know.

—

Commanders vs 49ers

Statik: 49ers
Reem: 49ers
Gemini: Commanders

Gemini is standing alone again.

After watching Washington squander an opportunity against New York, this might seem like an odd time to jump back on the Commanders bandwagon.

But sometimes the standings are won by finding one game nobody else believes in.

If Washington pulls it off, this could become one of the biggest picks of the week.

If not?

Well…

The Receipt Department is always open.

—

🎯 Week 6 Bus Driver Watch

A few storylines the crew will be watching closely:

  • Can Denver survive a short week against the defending champion Seahawks?
  • Are the Falcons contenders or pretenders?
  • Is the Eagles season beginning to slip away?
  • Can Buffalo avoid a letdown after its emotional Monday Night win?
  • Which team is this year’s surprise playoff contender?

One thing is certain:

Week 6 isn’t short on opportunities for receipts.

And by next Sunday, somebody is probably going to wish they changed their pick. 🚏🏈🔥
